Wool rugs can be cleaned at home.

Large particles can be dislodged from the rug by brushing the rug with a broom. Then use a vacuum to remove the particles. You can then wash the rug with a sponge and a mixture of water and soap or detergent. Gently sponge the rug with the soap solution. Then, gently sponge the rug with a pure water solution. Use a dry towel to soak up excess water. Hang or elevate the rug to let it air dry.
